The ability to communicate fluently is as is important today as it has ever been, if not more so. I for one am more than aware of the importance of fluency having spent eighteen years of my life struggling to cope with a speech impediment commonly referred to as a stutter.

The stutter impacted on my life in a major way and meant that seemingly simple speaking tasks were now made all the more difficult and at times unbearable.

It was some what of a struggle at school. Not being able to read out aloud in front of the other members of the class, not being able to answer the teacher's questions and not having the confidence to socialise with my classmates made school some what of a choir.

I then had the task of forging a career starting with the dreaded interview process. It was of course made that bit more difficult due to the speech impediment.

As I became older I inevitably became interested in girls/women. Unfortunately however I did not have the confidence to talk to them and would often think along the lines of "Who is going to want to date me with this annoying stutter?" Very negative I know but that was the way it was.

I always found is especially hard to meet new people, again it was my lack of overall confidence. Ordering food and drink at for example a bar was something else that proved beyond my capability from time to time.
