Over the last five years there has been a large increase in the amount of remedies for stammering and stuttering. Not only has there been an increase in the number of treatments available there has also been an increase in the quality of therapy and advice.
I developed a stutter when I was just four years of age and it was not until the age of twenty-two that I managed to overcome it. I will never forget the frustration that I used to feel when attending treatments such as speech and language therapy. For many reasons it was not of benefit to me and did not provide me with the remedy to stuttering that I was looking for.
The treatments include personal one-to-one stuttering therapy courses as well as courses which are run on a group basis (typically these groups consist of ten to fifteen people). Some of these courses are run by people who have previously had this form of speech impediment and who have therefore experienced life with a stutter. These courses are the most beneficial and are therefore the most sought after.
There are also a number of self-help stuttering therapy options available for people who are unable to attend one of these specialist courses. These options include a stuttering therapy e-book, a stuttering therapy DVD and a stuttering therapy audio-book.
