I am fairly confident that the majority of people want to become successful in some field or other. Some people want to gain success in sport, some in business and others in examinations. So what are the keys to success? How can we gain an edge over our competitors?

I would like to think that I am a success. I have achieved many things in life. I have successfully managed to overcome a stuttering problem that had affected my life for eighteen years. This is no mean feat due to the fact that speech and language therapists claim that there is no cure for stuttering! I have managed to score a hundred break in snooker; this had been a goal of mine for many years before I finally managed to achieve it when I was twenty years of age. I have also run a successful business for the last ten years.

Success depends on many things; hard work and dedication are just two of the most important elements. I personally believe in learning from other successful people and enjoy reading about the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Alan Sugar and Richard Branson.

I go the extra mile in my preparation to stay one step ahead of the game. I do this by legitimate ways as to cheat would just not be creditable. People who cheat their way to success, such as sportsmen or women who take drugs, are just losers in my eyes.

Learning from the mistakes I make is one sure method to my own personal self-improvement. We all make errors and we should not be ashamed to admit it.

Even when we have achieved a certain goal there is likely to be room for improvement, therefore we should not rest on our laurels.

Finally having a positive attitude is an essential part of obtaining a successful end result.
