It is the start of a new year, 2008, a time when people make resolutions in an attempt at improving their lives. Some people start a diet, some people try to quit smoking, some people decide to commence saving money and others decide to stop drinking alcohol. All of these require great determination and will power to succeed. In the case of alcohol it also takes a great deal of courage or as some people call it, bottle. Alcohol, in my opinion, causes a great deal of damage, have you got the bottle to stop drinking it.
How many times have you apologised for saying or doing something out of turn when under the influence of alcohol? I am sorry but it was just the beer talking, I didn't mean it. I have lost count the number of times I have said that statement.
I am not sure how alcohol affects you, for me personally it can make me either very happy which is normally the case but it can sometimes make me feel quite depressed. On occasions it can also make me become quite angry and aggressive. By nature I am quite a placid, relaxed person but occasionally when drunk I can turn into a bit of a monster.
I have now decided that I do not like the person that I become when I am drunk and that I therefore need to stop drinking alcohol. Thus far I have not touched a drop for the last eight weeks. It has been fairly tough however not as tough as I thought it would be. I feel proud of what I have achieved so far and am determined to stay off the booze forever.
