There are not many people who could actually claim to enjoy public speaking. Having to talk in front of a crowd of people is daunting at the best of times however the thought of being a best man can cause many a sleepless night for members of the male species. In this article I will be writing about the fear of being a best man and will give advice on how people can successfully deliver a the speech.
I am a person who had a stutter in childhood, this stuttering problem actually continued to affect my speech until I was aged twenty-two. I had had a fear of talking in certain situations, for example having to read out a loud from a book, that lasted for around eighteen years and could therefore understand this type of stress. What I could not understand is why my friend was so worried as he did not have a stutter.
I do not think I will stutter or stammer, my friend said, I just do not like public speaking and am worried that my mind might go blank or that people may find the speech boring. The last thing I want to do is to let my brother down, he continued.
He then decided to be pro-active and went to the library to read about how to deliver a successful public speech.
He came back full of ideas and in a much more positive frame of mind. I need to pre-plan the speech, I need to include a couple of jokes and funny stories about the groom and I need to just take my time he said.
On the day my friend did superb, everybody seemed to enjoy his speech, the pre-planning had worked a treat.
